Interview with Actor Guillaume Rivaud
NY Elite: Other than ‘Mordred’ what projects other projects are you working on?
Guillaume Rivaud: In February 2016, I will be shooting a short drama film called, ‘The Highway Man’ based on the famous poem by Alfred Noyes. Filming will take place in magnificent locations across Cornwall. I was cast as The Magistrate / Officer in this lovely production. Then from early March until the end of September, I will be working hard on the Mordred feature film and stage shows. So I will be living and breathing King Arthur for the few months .
NY Elite: King Arthur has been been depicted in many films. What do you love about playing King Arthur?
Guillaume Rivaud: In my opinion King Arthur is not just a character, but one of the most recognized and researched historical figures . Arthur was a very strong man with huge values and ethics. He fought against injustice at all times and stood up for his family and friends. What ever book you read, or film you watch about Arthur, you will discover a different man, put in a context of a different story steeped in myth and legend. After analysing few of these stories and my, ‘Mordred’ script , I decided to play my character with traits which I try to uphold such as , Compassion, passion, loyalty, dedication and vigour.
NY Elite: How do you connect to this interesting historical character “King Arthur”?
Guillaume Rivaud: I am lucky enough to live in Cornwall, which is home to numerous historical sites relating to Arthurian legends. It’s been really inspiring visiting these sites and I have gained a lot of knowledge doing this. I feel a direct connection with Arthur, as I am here roaming the very land in which he roamed , living in Cornwall with its wild moors, high cliffs and untamed seas just as he did.
NY Elite: Without giving anything away, what’s your favorite line of dialogue?
Guillaume Rivaud: “You will be outlawed !” ( says it all really ).
NY Elite: How is this production bringing something new to this story?
Guillaume Rivaud: Well, as you are well aware, countless movies have been made and books written about King Arthur and the Knights of the round table. I feel this is going to be a very different movie with authentic landscapes, soundscapes and energy. It’s going to be raw and atmospheric. Also, Mordred is the main guy here, so the attention should be focussed on him . It’s his tale. His story .
NY Elite: What’s it like working with director Laura Jay?
Guillaume Rivaud: I have known Laura Jay for a year now. She is , without a shadow of a doubt , the most hard working woman out there . She isn’t just the director of ‘Mordred’. She’s the writer, the producer, the publicist, the marketing manager, the coach , the friend and also the director of SDP Theatre @ Movie Company. She is talented, passionate, caring and I believe that the success of ‘Mordred’ will be a testament to her sheer hard work and dedication.
NY Elite: What’s going to surprise people about this show/movie?
Guillaume Rivaud: The fact that its not a Hollywood blockbuster with a budget of 100 million + dollars ; but a genuine, beautifully crafted independent UK film from the South West shot in the most exquisite Arthurian locations in Cornwall and Devon , bursting with talented and committed local actors and crew alike .
NY Elite: Besides yourself, which actor/actress in this production is going to blow people away?
Guillaume Rivaud: They are all great and talented individuals . I have the upmost respect for them all and I am delighted to be able to mix it up with them in the next few months.
NY Elite: What has been your favorite film you have been part of?
Guillaume Rivaud: I have had the pleasure to work on various productions the past few months , but so far my favourite is, ‘ Last Weekend’. The horror feature film we shot in Dorset a few months ago that was directed by my friend Rad Brown . It was a thrilling experience filming out in the woods with the bogey man in pursuit .The film will be out later this year .
NY Elite: Where else have you played leading role?
Guillaume Rivaud: I’ve played King Arthur for ‘Forbidden History’ TV series / Documentary which is due to be aired on the Yesterday TV channel in the next few weeks.
NY Elite: What other types of movies would you be interested in filming?
Guillaume Rivaud: I love historical, medieval, period , sci-fi and horror films so I hope to be able to shoot more movies in the future related to these genres in particular .
NY Elite: What hidden talents do you have?
Guillaume Rivaud: I am also an Artist and I paint 3D virtual planetariums in People’s homes since 2003. (www.painterofstars.com)
NY Elite: What personal advice would you give to someone wanting to pursue this career?
Guillaume Rivaud: Keep fighting and keep pushing forward every single day . Turn off the critics inside and the critics outside. It’s better to try and fail , than not to try at all, after all how much time do we have left ? We can only make a difference to our own lives and the world we live in by stepping up and taking positive action.
NY Elite: What can we expect from you in 2016?
Guillaume Rivaud: I am going to be super busy filming ‘Mordred’ as King Arthur but I will always find the time if a great script comes my way, so let’s see what 2016 brings …
