United International Film Festival announces July 2016 selections for the NY screenings

New York City, New York- July 2016-United International Film Festival (UIFF) presents a program of new international cinema from filmmakers from across the globe. United International Film Festival (UIFF) supporters are a community of passionate individuals and organizations that are united in their support of UIFF mission to advance the work of independent artists in film and to share their stories with the world. The UIFF community understands that fresh perspectives from visionary storytellers are essential for a healthy and vibrant society.

On Saturday, July 30, 2016 UIFF will host a day of networking and special screenings at Producers Club Theaters in New York City.

How Are You?: Directed by Atsushi Muroga. Starring Miho Miyazawa, Hayato Maruyama, Aiko Katô and Shun Tanaka. (Japan) Don’t you think living itself is worth?

…Where is she now?: Directed and written by John Henry Richardson. Starring John Henry Richardson, Amy Chaffee, Ajay Nayyar and Ana Lopes.( Austria | Germany | Netherland) Marita ran away the night before graduation. Two years later she’s still running, and one man will stop at nothing to find her.

Intersection: Directed by Tim French.Written by Michael French and Tim French. Starring Hoyt Richards, Tony Longo, Bonnie Hellman and David Kagen. (USA) A guilt-ridden man who blames himself for the accidental death of his only child meets a mysterious beautiful woman in the same remote town where the fateful car crash occurred. There is a spark between them. But she carries a dark past.

Alma: Directed and written by Diego Rougier. Starring Dayana Amigo, Paz Bascuñán and Esteban Bigliardi. (Chile | Argentina) Alma is a funny bipolar woman that kicks her husband out of the house because he is tired of her illness. He will do everything it takes to get her back.

Dumbbells: Directed by Christopher Livingston. Written by Brian Drolet and Hoyt Richards. Starring Hoyt Richards, Brian Drolet and Taylor Cole. (USA) A former basketball star suffering from a knee injury looks to rehab himself at a rundown Los Angeles gym.

You Carry Me: Directed and written by Ivona Juka. Starring Lana Baric, Vojislav Brajovic and Natasa Janjic. (Croatia |Slovenia | Serbia) No treason, no surrender.

Follow Me: Directed and written by Dieter-Michael Grohmann. Starring Shantala Pepe. (Austria) Attempting to escape from her inner self followed by panic attacks as well as quiet moments, the protagonist eventually faces her demons. Afflicted by doubts and quiet desperation she realizes that there is only one way out: to let go and give herself over to what is meant to be.

Harmonica: Directed by and written by Ye Kuang. Starring Kai Valerius, Jessica Taylor Haid and Marcus Karlsson. (USA)

Pedro Cano: Directed by Alfonso Burgos Risco. Written by Carmen Castillo Moriano and Alfredo Cuervo Pando. Starring Pedro Cano, María Garres, Anastasiya Kouras, Yolanda Martínez and Helena Rodríguez Crespo. First of two documentaries about Pedro Cano in which two meetings with students for the exchange of ideas on the subject of working process of the Murcian artist in his Travel Notebooks are recorded. In this first documentary meeting with students it is conducted in the study of Pedro Cano in Blanca.

(United Kingdom) After a global nuclear and chemical war a disciplined military captain Thomas is tasked with toughening up a young and kind soldier Landon, who is unable to shoot innocent refugees, only to find out the truth about the system he lives in.

Masheenee Alcketiara: Directed by Ema Shah. Written by Ema Shah and Adnan Al Sharhan. Starring Hussain Ali, Dax, Al Mojadi and Noor.( Kuwait) A traditional Kuwaiti girl seeking life beyond her society, to achieve her ambitions and dreams in the modern era, to sing, to dance, and to flourish. Ebru: Directed and written by Jennifer Merchant. Starring Angelique Merchant, Etonio Providence, Jennifer Merchant and Johannes Bartl. (Netherlands | United States) Ebru- a young muslim, born and raised in Amsterdam- likes to party. She returns home with a broken shoe heel. The next day she visits the shoe repair to fix her shoe.

Last Writes: Directed by Peewee Piemonte. Written by Sarah Carbiener. Starring Raymond Forchion, Lance Henriksen, Julie Michaels and Timothy Walker. (United States) When a woman, tired of her unsupported family, decided to find out about her banished Uncle after he dies, she falls upon a plethora of love letters written to him during WWII. She sets out to find the author of the letter who only goes by “B”. Who she finds as her uncles love, is quite different that she had imagined, but the love she experiences is the kind she could only hope for in her own life.

Legend of Dark Rider: The Beginning Directed and written by Titus Paar. Starring Stefan Cronwall, Ralf Beck, Urban Bergsten and Tommi Korkeamäki. (Sweden) A story that has lasted for generations, about the Dark Rider. A beast none has survived, a monster, not human.

A Children’s Song: Directed by Shayna Cohen. Written by Shayna Cohen and Zhuofei Song. Starring Jane Wu, Leann Lei, and Cindera Che. (USA) When two students competing for a music scholarship discover that their original compositions are based on a single family song, both are determined to prove ownership, leading them to uncover the long lost true origin of the melody: a story of salvation and hope when over 20,000+ Jews emigrated to Shanghai during WWII.

Home: Directed by Thanika Jenjesda. Written by Brian LaGuardia. Starring Shannon McLemore and John Polce. (USA) A naive young nurse with a great sense of generosity allows a disheveled old homeless man into her home. Although the man clearly has psychological problems, she forces him to stay for her own mysterious reasons.

The Intimate Realities of Water: Directed and written by Adrian Parr. (USA)The Intimate Realities of Water is a series of cinematic portraits that examine the power dynamics of water and slums. The film is a social commentary that also chronicles the complex relationship between water, poverty, gender, sanitation, health, and development in shantytowns.
