NY Elite Interview with artist  Nancy Pedneault

NY Elite: Tell us a little about yourself.

Nancy Pedneault: I started painting in 2010 when I was in New Brunswick. I was new to the area and I did not have a lot a friends so it was my way to pass time. At that time I realized that I had some talent because co workers were asking me for to paint more on canvas.

I always had art in my heart. In 2007 I tried comic stand up, however I found it stressful and it was not for me. But painting was the best way to let go of my creativity.

For me painting is the best way to release my stress. Just sitting and asking myself which colors I will use it’s relaxing. When I paint the colors on the canvas and see the results I’m so proud of the result.

NY Elite: What art do you most identify with?

Nancy Pedneault: I’m a big fan of abstract painting. I think that it’s the way artists put theirs emotions on canvas.

NY Elite: What memorable responses have you had to your work?

Nancy Pedneault: Just to have people that love my work on Instagram or Facebook makes me happy.  With social media, everybody everywhere can see my painting. Just to have a thumbs up on one of my pictures make me feel proud of what I did.

NY Elite:  What does “being creative” mean to you?

Nancy Pedneault: Being creative for me is the best part of my personality. It’s very important to put this side of me in front. I am working in the opposite domain. Arts is my way to let go of my self.

To help me in my creativity I always put music. Life without music is nothing. I was a saxophone player when I was young and I can tell you tell music has always been a part of my life.

NY Elite:  What are you trying to communicate with your art?

Nancy Pedneault: In my art I try to communicate my passion. I am communicating that not because I’m working in construction that I am not able to do art.

NY Elite:  What kind of creative patterns, routines or rituals do you have?

Nancy Pedneault: My ritual is music. I will put David Bowie, Prince, Jamiroquai, George Michael or Half moon run, listening to the music. Close my eyes and feel what the music gives  me.

NY Elite:  What role does the Artist have in Society?

Nancy Pedneault: Artists are very important in the society. If you act or sing or paint everyone needs to look at someone’s art. It’s the moment in everyone’s life when they are looking at art when they don’t think about their own life.

NY Elite:  What are your thoughts on being an artist in today’s world?

Nancy Pedneault: In today’s world being an artist is very different with the social media. Everybody can be someone. When I was young an artist was an actor or a signer but now you can do selfies and you are considered like an artist. So that means that all doors are open to anyone.

NY Elite:  How has painting influenced your life?

Nancy Pedneault: Painting shows me how to relax and take the time to do something that I like without rushing. Painting for me is the best way to clear my head from any problems. I put everything on the side and just let go my creativity.

NY Elite: What can we expect from you in 2017?

Nancy Pedneault: In 2017 I will love to do my first exposition. To show what I can do to everybody. To show the side of me that not everyone knows.

NY Elite: Can you share with us three favorite things about your city/culture?

3 things about Montreal that I love and that you will love:
