Meet the Artist: NY Elite Interview with Director and Actor Xhustin Kristian
NY Elite: What are you latest and current movie projects?
Xhustin Kristian: My latest project was “Lost Souls”. It is my first feature short film I directed, where I played the main character, Gabriel.
NY Elite: Can you tell us about your character in the film?
Xhustin Kristian: Gabriel is a guy who works in a carpentry. Unsatisfied with his social position, outside the doors of his workplace, he tries to represent himself as the son of a businessman surrounded by luxury, believing that this is the only missing difference in his life to be happy. A short romance wakes him up and makes him appreciate what really matters in life.
NY Elite: What was it like working with the director?
Xhustin Kristian: I had very good experiences working with directors. The actor’s collaboration with the director should always be understandable, too close and reciprocal, so they can understand one another’s views and achieve the desired results. They have to share the same vision of the emotional harmony of the character, which is also the essential difficulty. Everyone should love what he does, and the rest come after.
NY Elite: In which movies have you played lead role?
Xhustin Kristian: The market in Albania is too narrow and difficult for such opportunities, even for auditions. In the theater scene, I had the opportunity to play the lead role, while in the film Gabriel was the first lead role for me and I hope to play others soon as well.
NY Elite: Among all your roles so far, which has been your favorite one and why?
Xhustin Kristian: I would point out my special love for Franc, the lead role from the drama “Promise”. He is a bohemian artist destined to be lonely. After being disappointed by experimenting with almost every entertainment of human society, he understands that love and family are the most priceless things. Franc is the personification of the truth of life, that’s why I distinguish him as my favorite one.
NY Elite: What do you enjoy most about your acting career?
Xhustin Kristian: To me acting is life. We all have a gift called life but the actors have the possibility to live more than one even if just at the shooting set or stage. Playing a character means giving life to a creature and the process of creation is always a unique emotion.
NY Elite: What other hobbies and interests do you have?
Xhustin Kristian: I’m interested in every field of art in general such as music, dance, painting. Psychology and philosophy help me to know human nature while the history of the Earth and the Universe reveals me the world that surrounds us. Theology and Mysticism are also two areas of particular interest to me. I find comfort in travel and fitness also.
NY Elite: Are you working on your next project now?
Xhustin Kristian: The nearest project will be “Balkan’s Gate”, which will be held in October in the Prespa area, Albania. It is a platform that will bring together new cinematographers from different Balkan’s countries for ten days, making possible the realization of their film projects. “Balkan’s Gate” is a project in collaboration with the screenwriter and director Ajola Daja.
NY Elite: What personal advice would you give to someone about impressing the directors during audition? How to audition?
Xhustin Kristian: First as all, they should not be impressed by the director or the staff. They have to feel free to play the character just as they feel and think it, without being under pressure to give their best, because they will lose the naturality.
NY Elite: What causes/charities you actively support or feel strongly about?
Xhustin Kristian: I believe that we all need to look after a better future for our children and our planet.
NY Elite: What are the things in your life that you’re most grateful for?
Xhustin Kristian: For every second of my life I thank God for what I am and I have. Family and true friends are the priceless things.
