Meet the Artist: Interview with painter Anesti Duka

NY Elite: Tell us about yourself and your career beginnings.

My name is Anesti Duka and I am an artist from Tirana, Albania. I am currently an art professor. My profession is an artist painter. I am graduated in the University of Arts of Albania for monumental painting. I always create on my free time, mainly oil painting and compositions. I have opened many exhibitions years ago in Tirana and Germany.

I’ve started painting since I was a child. My professionalism kept growing with the time. My first experience was at the palace of pioniers In Tirana. After that I continued individually in art schools and university of arts.

NY Elite: What projects are you currently working on?

I am preparing for an exhibition with my paintings.

NY Elite: What art do you most identify with?

As I mentioned before, I am a painter and is the form of art I find myself most comfortable in.

NY Elite: What themes do you pursue?

Mostly contemporary art on canvas, but I always love to try everything new that comes with the modern times.

NY Elite: What’s your favorite art work?

I love Sistine Chapel of Michelangelo.

NY Elite: Tell us about some of your recent exhibitions. What memorable responses have you had to your work?

I had an exhibition in Germany and two of my paintings are still there in a collectionists hands from the amazement.

NY Elite: Tell us about one of your projects which you are very proud of.

I have in my mind my favorite project in the right place for the right time in my next exhibition.

NY Elite: What does ‘being creative’ mean to you?

Being creative to me is making a creation not for money, but for the greatness of expressing my feelings into art.

NY Elite: What kind of creative patterns, routines or rituals do you have?

I prefer compositions with many figures from all the eras.

NY Elite: What are you trying to communicate with your art?

I want to communicate with my new art and to repeat the previous forms of other artists.

NY Elite: What Role does the artist have in society?

An artist goes beyond time and only a few people understand what his mind is trying to communicate.

NY Elite: What are your thoughts in being an artist in today’s world?

Being an artist in our new world is to an artist first in yourself, and to leave a mark for the next generations. I do not paint as in a competition to others, I paint to grow in the world of art.

NY Elite: How has painting influenced your life?

Painting takes out all the negative energy that is inside me and has made me more understanding of the world and feeling positive.

NY Elite: What kind of art is unappealing if you?

In a short term, fabricated art and without a destination.

NY Elite: What art movement or artist would you say influences your work most?

I influenced from individual artists, not movements. I think all individual created work is what indicates a new movement time by time. If I should mention one, it is Modigliani and Mark Chagal who painted not for a movement reason and their paintings are more loved nowadays.

NY Elite: What can we expect from you in 2018?

A new exhibition, in which I will include my new best of works.

NY Elite: Can you share with us three favorite things about your city/culture?

The national museum, the national gallery and folklore.
