2018 Trends, Tips from Master Stylist Nazim Salihu

Award-winning Master Stylist Nazim Salihu sits down with NY Elite to share the latest trends, success tips and his upcoming projects. 

NY Elite: How did you get your start in the industry?

Nazim Salihu: Since I was very young I had a passion about beauty and art. As time went on, I developed my passion as hair stylist. In a very young age I was sure what would be my destiny in the future.

NY Elite: How would you describe your style?

Nazim Salihu: It is hard to give it a name. My style is classic but at the same time modern. One thing is sure, I’m always looking for new trends, techniques and for the best products.


NY Elite: Where do you draw your inspiration?

Nazim Salihu: A lot of my inspiration comes from meeting people and by art in general.  It can be a beautiful song or an abstract picture.Being surrounded by amazing people in my life it is one of the key to have a successful carrier.

NY Elite: What are some upcoming hair trends for 2018?

Nazim Salihu: 2018 is going to be all about embracing natural, short cuts, easy bangs, and enhanced textures mostly relaxed styles.

NY Elite: Which iconic hairstyles do you love?

Nazim Salihu: For women I love the soft waves style, vintage style and for man the Ivy Leagues is a good choice. This haircut is bound to impress in the professional business settings or social events.

NY Elite: What are the biggest hair care do’s and dont’s?

Nazim Salihu: It is very important that the shampoo we use to be a good line, and to brush the hair twice daily.

NY Elite: What does it take to be successful in your industry?

Nazim Salihu: Well, the passion and the hard-work leads you always to success. I think is very important for every hairdresser to listen carefully to their customer so they can understand their desires, etc.

NY Elite: Can you tell us about a memorable moment in your carrier?

Nazim Salihu: I have been in many countries around the world like Milano, Budabest, Istanbul Berlin for different workshops or competitions. One of them I enjoyed mostly. It was when I attended the event in Switzerland and I was lucky to meet my favorite hairdresser Gianni il Figaro.

NY Elite: Have you worked with any famous?

Nazim Salihu: I worked with different celebrities like Jennifer Aniston, Owen Wilson ,Kenny Rogers etc. I really enjoyed the time with Jennifer Aniston, she was a very nice person and very funny.

NY Elite: How did you feel when you styled your first celebrity client hair?

Nazim Salihu: I was very exited and in the same time i felt really lucky.

NY Elite: Who’s hair would you like to work on?

Nazim Salihu: I cant announce a special name but i would say definitely i would love to work on  healthy hair.

NY Elite: How do you define beauty?

Nazim Salihu: Beauty for me is very important and i think the real beauty starts from the heart. When people start feeling beautiful they definitely start looking beautiful.

NY Elite: What tips and advises for young stylist?

Nazim Salihu: From now on everyone knows these 2 words, passion and hardworker. If you love what you do and you want to be successful, you have to work hard. There is one thing that I recommend to everyone: be honest with your clients.

NY Elite: What are your career goals and inspiration?

Nazim Salihu: I always find time in my life to help young passionate people especially if we share the same passion about work. So my next goal is to create an international group of artists that will help in more networking and working together. Of course its my pleasure to promote especially artists from my hometown.

NY Elite: Are there any new exciting shows or projects that you are working on?

Nazim Salihu: I am invited all the time in different events and shows for collaboration. For the moment I’m working I am involved in a really great project but can’t tell you more. It is a surprise.
