NY Elite Interview with Director Alon Daniel
NY Elite: Congratulations on being an official selection at the prestigious International Filmmaker Festival of New York. What are your thoughts about being accepted at IFFNY 2018 film festival and having your film screen in New York City?
Wow! I was so happy to hear that I was accepted to A New York film Festival!
New York is one of my favorite places in the world. I have a lot of friends there that I really miss and have not seen for 8 years .. 😦
NY Elite: Out of the 500 submissions world-wide, your film was selected as the top 40 for IFFNY. What does this mean for you in terms of representing your country/city at this international film festival?
This film touches me especially because it is a personal film, but as I connect to it I am sure that a lot of people will feel a connection to it and I am excited that it will be screened outside the borders of Israel.
NY Elite: With what project are you partaking at IFFNY 2018? What is it about?
I present my short film “Time”. A film about a day in the life of Amit, a young 22-year-old who studies cinema and works as a photographer for companies that hire him to photograph people’s interviews. In the film we see Amit experiencing difficulties during a simple day that just keeps getting entangled.
NY Elite: Who else is involved in the making of this project? Tell us a little bit more about the story and who is in it.
The people involved in this project are my friends, some of them studying cinema and the rest are working in the field. My girlfriend, Daniel Shefer made all the Art design and the Styling.
My friend, Michael Swissa, that I make his music videos and participated as a telephone friend in the film. The other details about the film I’ll leave you to see in the film.
NY Elite: What message do you want to convey with this project?
Sometimes you need to say no.
NY Elite: The Red Carpet Opening Ceremony and the Awards Gala will take place at the renowned Kaufman Astoria Studios of New York. Do you plan to attend the IFFNY Festival taking place on May 25-29, 2018? What do you want the audience at IFFNY to take away from this film?
My dream was to be there with you at the festival in New York, but unfortunately I can not come because of the constraints of producing my new film, but do not worry, I sent you the film’s ambassador, Yahav Trudler.
NY Elite: What makes a film great for you? Are there certain qualities that make a film better for you?
A good movie for me is a film with all the elements in it, whether it’s sound, photography, art, styling and of course the script.
NY Elite: Top 3 favorite films/projects you have been involved in?
– “Lyla’s Night Out”
– “Eden Derso & DJ Mesh – BUSSES”
– Ellblaze “Drumz”
NY Elite: What are your career highlights and achievements thus far?
I made a film that I’m very proud of and happy to be traveling around the world. I took a video clip of a legendary rock band from Israel that was active in the 1970s and 1980s.
What I am most proud of is that I am surrounded by talented and good people who are fun to create with them.
NY Elite: Do you express yourself creatively in any other ways?
Right now I concentrate on photography and directing. I also enjoy photography very much.
NY Elite: What advice would you give to someone who wants to have a career in filmmaking?
I do not think you’re asking the right person. I’m still getting started. The most important thing is that you do what you love and believe in.
NY Elite: What’s next for you?
I’m filming my new film in two weeks and already working on the next film that will probably be filmed outside of Israel
