Deadpool 3: Morena Baccarin is in talks to return as Vanessa

Wade’s better half in the Deadpool franchise has not yet sealed the deal to return, but the actress is hopeful as the talks continue.

Deadpool 3 is shaping up on getting the band back together. Not only is there the exciting news of Hugh Jackman’s return as Wolverine, but Wade Wilson’s support system, Dopinder and Blind Al, are back to aid our hero as well. In the last outing, Deadpool 2, we saw Wade time-travel through different periods in the film to save the lives of those who had been killed off. One of those characters was notably Wade’s girlfriend, Vanessa. For such a grand gesture, it should be inevitable that actress Morena Baccarin is returning to the third, but according to CBR, Baccarin is only in talks to return with a pending deal.

Baccarin recently appeared on Smallville actor Michael Rosenbaum’s podcast, Inside of You. Rosenbaum asked what kind of plans were being made for her return to Deadpool 3, and Baccarin would reply, “I have to be very diplomatic about what I say here. I’d like to be in it. They have called me about being in it, and right now, we have not agreed on terms. And everybody’s trying their best and doing their best. But it may not — it may or may not work out. I don’t know.” The podcast’s official Instagram account posted a snippet of the episode regarding her answer with the caption, “There might be a future for ‘Vanessa’ (aka Morena Baccarin ) in Deadpool 3 #crossingourfingers.”

Details on the third film’s plot are yet to be released, except for the fact that Wolverine is a big part of it, and he’ll eventually don the iconic yellow suit that the character has sported in the comics for decades. However, Vanessa was always the backbone of the films, with Deadpool himself calling the first one a love story. His relationship with Vanessa was a poignant character detail. Even when her screen time was limited in the second, her absence was a big part of Wade’s arc.

The third entry will be helmed by Stranger Things director Shawn Levy. Each entry so far has played to the director’s strengths. Tim Miller, director of the first, has a background in visual effects, and it sported some wildly creative and good-looking CGI. John Wick co-director David Leitch stepped in for Deadpool 2 where he brought a lot of his action sensibilities to the franchise. Levy pledges that he will not water down the violence for this entry and will ensure that it is “raw, gritty, grounded in the ways that those movies have been and that all of us love.”
