The House Across the Lake: Paul Feig might direct Riley Sager thriller for Netflix

Paul Feig is producing and might direct an adaptation of author Riley Sager’s thriller novel The House Across the Lake for Netflix

Paul Feig is still waiting for Universal to give him the chance to make his monster movie Dark Army, a project that was first announced back in 2019. But while he waits, he’s keeping and busy, and Deadline reports that he might have just found his next directing gig. A film adaptation of the Riley Sager thriller novel The House Across the Lake (pick up a copy HERE) is set up at the Netflix streaming service, with Feig and Laura Fischer producing for Feigco and Sarah Schechter, Greg Berlanti, and Mike McGrath producing for Berlanti-Schechter Films – and it’s said that Feig is considering directing the film himself.

Whoever ends up directing The House Across the Lake will be bringing the following story to the screen: Casey Fletcher is a recently widowed actress trying to escape a streak of bad press. She retreats to the peace and quiet of her family’s lake house in Vermont. Armed with a pair of binoculars and several bottles of bourbon, she passes the time watching Tom and Katherine Royce, the glamorous couple living in the house across the lake. They make for good viewing — a tech innovator, Tom is rich, and a former model, Katherine is gorgeous. One day on the lake, Casey saves Katherine from drowning, and the two strike up a budding friendship. The more they get to know each other — and the longer Casey watches — it becomes clear that Katherine and Tom’s marriage isn’t as perfect as it appears. When Katherine suddenly vanishes, Casey becomes consumed with finding out what happened to her. In the process, she uncovers eerie, darker truths that turn a tale of voyeurism and suspicion into a story of guilt, obsession and how looks can be very deceiving.

I haven’t read Sager’s novel, but that sounds like a great set-up for a thriller to me. I look forward to seeing how this project is going to turn out – and I’m definitely going to be seeking out the book to read before the movie is released.
